What’s new for Microsoft Viva – March 2024
March was a bustling period for the Microsoft Viva suite, marked by a series of updates and announcements that promise to enhance the experience for both administrators and end users.
In March, Microsoft Viva introduced several updates, particularly for Viva Connections, aimed at improving the experience for both administrators and users. Additionally, Viva Engage and Viva Learning received updates that shouldn’t be missed. We’ll cover these changes and how they can benefit your interaction with the Viva suite.

Microsoft Viva Insights: We are pausing the Digest email
Viva Insights
Microsoft Viva Insights will pause sending Digest emails to users starting April 1, 2024. Users can use the Viva Insights app in Teams and web or the Viva Insights Outlook add-in instead. Users should review and assess the impact on their organization and end-users, and update their documentation as appropriate.

Microsoft Copilot academy in Viva Learning

Microsoft Viva Learning is launching Microsoft Copilot academy for tenants with a Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 license. The Copilot academy provides structured educational content in Viva Learning to help users learn about, discover, and use Copilot for Microsoft 365 quickly and effectively. The academy will be available to users who meet two criteria and will be enabled by default. Admins can disable the academy. The rollout will begin early April 2024 and expect to complete by early April 2024. No action is needed to prepare for this rollout.

Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance: Reduce detect-to-investigation time from 24 hours to 1 hour for Viva Engage

Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance will release a feature that will reduce detection-to-investigation time from 24 hours to 1 hour for Microsoft Viva Engage private messages and community conversations. The feature will be available in public preview from mid-March 2024 to early April 2024. No action is needed to prepare for this rollout.

Microsoft Viva Engage: Digest email will now have audience analytics

Microsoft Viva Engage premium digest email will soon include audience analytics for designated leaders and their delegates. The change will roll out from mid-March 2024 to late April 2024 and will only apply to emails viewed in the interactive format in Outlook for the web or the New Outlook for Windows. No action is needed to prepare for this change.

Microsoft Viva: Viva Pulse Admin Led Trial
Viva Pulse
Microsoft Viva Pulse Admin Led Trial is now available in the Microsoft Admin Center. Admin trials offer 25 users in an organization access to Viva Pulse for 30 days. The trial will be live worldwide in mid-March 2024. To activate the trial, the Microsoft 365 Global Admin or the Billing Admin can assign licenses and inform trial users to access Viva Pulse through Microsoft Teams or the web browser. Microsoft Viva Connections: Dark mode support on Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Viva Connections will support dark mode on Microsoft Teams Desktop and mobile devices starting March 2024. The Viva Connections app will prioritize user’s preferred dark mode setting over company branding. No preparation is needed, but users can learn more about the feature’s requirements and best practices.

Microsoft Viva Engage is rolling out enhanced navigation for a seamless user experience. The changes will be available for all Viva Engage licensed organizations, with additional changes for Viva Communications and Communities bundle and Viva Suite. The rollout will begin mid-March 2024 and is expected to complete by late March 2024. No action is needed to prepare for this rollout.
Microsoft Viva Connections app: Search your intranet in Microsoft Teams on iOS and Android tablets

Microsoft Viva Connections app will soon allow iOS and Android tablet users to search their intranet in the app in Teams. No action is needed to prepare for this rollout. This feature will be available worldwide from early April 2024 to mid-April 2024.

Microsoft Viva: Answers Intelligent Importer (Premium)

Microsoft Viva’s Answers Intelligent Importer (Premium) allows the generation of structured Q&A pairs from existing unstructured documentation and posting them into premium communities and Answers for easy retrieval and reuse of knowledge. The feature will be available within Communities for Premium users on Viva Engage and will soon be available on the Answers page. Viva Engage admins will be able to control who can see and use this feature through their admin settings. The feature supports Microsoft Word documents (.docx), PDFs, and .txt files stored on the user’s local device. Smaller documents tend to provide better results (2-10 pages), and Q&A pairs generated will be limited to 20 on each upload action.

Microsoft Viva: Viva Insights leader deep-dive reports focus on customer, business operations, and agility

Microsoft Viva Insights app in Microsoft Teams will release two Out of Box Experience (OOBE) reports for leaders with themes on new hire onboarding and integration, and external focus. The reports will help leaders understand employee onboarding experience, professional development, and external relationships. The rollout will begin in late March 2024 and complete by mid-April 2024. Organizations should review and assess the impact and notify users about the change. Microsoft Viva Learning: Disable LinkedIn Learning premium content

Microsoft Viva Learning is rolling out a feature for admins to disable LinkedIn Learning premium content in Viva Learning for all users in their tenant. This feature will be available worldwide from late March 2024 to mid-April 2024. This rollout does not affect any existing Viva Learning functionality or configuration, and there is no impact for end-users in Viva Learning. To turn off LinkedIn Learning premium content, go to Viva Learning Admin > Manage Providers > LinkedIn Learning. No action is needed to prepare for this rollout.
Viva Learning | New language settings for admins and users
Viva Learning
Viva Learning is introducing new language settings for admins and users. Admins can define supported languages in the Available languages setting in the Viva Learning admin page, while users can personalize Viva Learning by choosing their preferred language in the Viva Learning app settings. The rollout will begin in April 2024. After rollout, Viva Learning will only reflect the user Language setting in Viva Learning, and changing the language in Microsoft Teams or a browser will not affect the language setting for Viva Learning. Learning admins should prepare the set of languages that the tenant supports in Viva Learning and inform users about the new capability to change Viva Learning language within the application.
Microsoft Viva Learning | Easily switch across Viva Learning Teams app and Webapp

Microsoft Viva Learning will allow users to easily switch between the Teams app and standalone Webapp using the Webapp button in Teams and Open in Teams option in Webapp. The rollout will begin in early April 2024 and end by mid-June 2024, with no action required from users. The update will enhance Viva Learning features in Teams app and Webapp.

Limiting duplicate topics in Microsoft Viva Engage

Microsoft Viva Engage will limit topic creation to unique names to prevent duplicate topics. This change will begin rolling out in late April 2024 and will affect users attempting to create duplicate topics. No action is required from admins, but users should be notified of the change.
Microsoft Viva Insights delegate access for leaders

Microsoft Viva Insights now allows leaders to delegate access to their organization insights to other individuals in their company. Delegated access will allow designated delegates to view organization insights and make data-driven decisions. This feature will be available for public preview in early April 2024 and for general availability worldwide in mid-April 2024. No action is needed to enable this feature, and leaders can use this capability at their discretion.
Microsoft Viva: Analytics for multiple Connections experiences

Microsoft Viva Connections analytics will be available at a Connections experience level rather than at a tenant level. The rollout will begin in early April 2024 and will affect organizations with multiple Connections experiences. No admin action is required, and the rollout will happen automatically.
Microsoft Viva Connections: Advanced analytics
Viva Connections
Microsoft Viva Connections will have advanced analytics available from early April 2024. The new analytics include 90-day daily and aggregated data, monthly data for the last 12 months, and month-over-month retention and returning user metrics. The rollout will happen automatically, and organizations need to have Microsoft Viva Suite or Microsoft Viva Communications and Communities licenses for their users. Learn more at Microsoft Learn.

Premium Viva Engage: New Copilot and AI Summarization

Microsoft Viva Engage is introducing Copilot and AI-powered Summarization in late April 2024 for all users with a premium Viva Engage license. Copilot provides personalized suggestions for what to post on Engage and offers collaboration on writing Engage posts. Copilot suggestions are powered by AI Summarization, which produces LLM-generated summaries of Engage posts. Admins can use the Viva Feature Access Management platform to control the availability of Copilot and AI Summarization in premium Viva Engage for the entire tenant and for select users and groups. No admin action is required to make Copilot available for use.
