What’s new for Microsoft Viva – October 2023
Microsoft Viva continues to grow and evolve, bringing exciting new updates to its suite of products in October 2023. This monthly update showcases Microsoft commitment to improving and expanding the Viva ecosystem.

Viva Engage – Domain/URL Update
To align the URL with the new Viva Engage branding and as part of the unified domain for Microsoft 365 initiative, Viva Engage’s URL schema is being updated. This change includes email sender and domains.
Create Up To 50 Distinct Experiences in Viva Connections
Customers with Viva Suite or Viva Employee Communications & Communities licenses can currently create up to 10 Connections experiences. We will soon be enhancing that limit to 50 experiences. This will allow greater flexibility for large enterprise customers who are looking to create more than 10 (and up to 50) Connections experiences.
The Home for the Viva Suite on the Web
Microsoft is excited to announce the upcoming availability of Viva Home, a single web destination for your employees to access all the Viva apps they are licensed for. With Viva Home, employees can gain quick access to all Viva apps and learn how to incorporate them into their everyday work.
Viva Learning Webapp Moving to Learning.Cloud.Microsoft
Microsoft is excited to announce that Viva Learning webapp is migrating from https://vivalearning.microsoft.com/ to https://learning.cloud.microsoft/. Viva Learning Webapp will also have self-explanatory and user-friendly links to tabs in Viva Learning.
Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Audit – New Yammer / Viva Engage Logs for Microsoft Purview Audit Standard Users
Microsoft Purview is expanding access to wider cloud security events for Microsoft Viva Engage (formerly known as Yammer).
Viva Topics: Inline on Demand Feedback on Topic Cards Available
Microsoft Viva users can soon provide feedback on AI suggested people and resources on a topic card by simply clicking the “Give Feedback” button to confirm or remove them.
Product-wide disablement of email to private message feature in Viva Engage (Yammer)
After 13th November 2023, Viva Engage (Yammer) will no longer support the creation of private messages through email. It will still be possible for users to post messages to communities through email.
Viva Connections: Apply brand colors across all Connections endpoints using themes
Soon you’ll be able to further customize the Connections experience by applying the themes available in SharePoint to reflect organizational brand colors across desktop, tablet, and mobile.
Microsoft Viva: Search in Viva Connections Mobile for iOS
Search will now be enabled in the Viva Connections (VC) app in Teams. Along with searching in Teams, VC users will also be able to get intranet search results. This feature will be rolled out in a phased manner starting with iOS in mobile only, followed by Android in mobile and then Tablet. The current update is linked to iOS in mobile and we will send out a notification before other phases as well.
Viva Engage | User reactions in eDiscovery is GA
We are excited to share that as of October 3rd 2023, user reactions to messages* in Viva Engage will be ingested for eDiscovery. Hence, any content search done on Viva Engage messages will retrieve all user reactions on those messages in eDiscovery. The solution is now GA to all our customers, in our effort to further strengthen the compliance standards of Viva Engage and deepen the trust of our customers in the product.
Viva Pulse Customization Control Migration
The customization control in the Viva Pulse Admin Experience will soon be managed through centralized feature access management in Viva through PowerShell. This customization control provides admins the ability to turn on or off customization capabilities for survey authors to add their own questions to existing stock templates or edit existing stock questions. With centralized feature access management, admins can configure access at the tenant level, group level (using AAD groups or M365 Groups), or at the user level, for maximum flexibility.
Expanded reactions in Viva Engage
We’re expanding the set of reactions available in all instances of Viva Engage. Users will see an additional 24 icons on top of the 6 we already offer. These new icons cover a wide range of emotions and sentiments, helping users express themselves and improve engagement in your network.
New adoption health metrics dashboard available for Viva Topics
Track the status of your adoption of Viva Topics with our new adoption health metrics dashboard! This feature is currently in Preview. We will begin rolling out to all Viva Topics tenants in late October and expect to complete by mid-November.
People Search Card in Viva Connections
Viva Connections have a new card where admins now have the option to incorporate a new people search card for their organization. This card enables colleagues to effortlessly search for and communicate with one another within the organization using Teams chat and email.
Refreshed Landing Experience for Viva Connections Desktop
The refreshed Viva Connections landing experience offers a more intuitive layout and introduces several requested new features including branding capabilities, sending announcements, a revamped Resources section, and support for different card sizes. This experience will also bring the Feed back into the viewport on your Connections page.
Viva Goals – Enhanced Planner integration
With the enhanced Viva Goals integration with Microsoft Planner, users will now be able to filter their tasks by buckets and labels, and integrate directly with specific tasks, enabling easier portfolio management and customizability for how your organization structures planning.
Viva Engage admin center toggle to disable private messages within a network
After 20th of November 2023, Viva Engage will offer a toggle in the Viva Engage/Yammer admin center to disable private messages for all users in the network.
Microsoft Viva : Connections Boosted News Notifications
Soon, in addition to existing news notifications, user of Viva Connections will also receive notifications for boosted news on the organization’s news site. This will allow communicators to more directly reach end user with important company news and communications.
