What’s new for Microsoft Viva – January 2024
Welcome to the first round of updates for Microsoft Viva in 2024, the employee experience platform that helps you connect, focus, learn, and thrive at work. In this post, you can find all the announcement from January, and let me tell you that there are some exciting new features and enhancements for Viva Connections and Viva Engage.
With Viva Connections, you can customize your sites and experiences with fonts and themes in the brand center, create multiple distinct Connections experiences in the same tenant for different scenarios and users, and manage your Connections experiences and home sites from the Microsoft Viva admin experience in Microsoft 365 admin center.

Improved copy + paste link experience in Viva Engage web/browser
Viva Engage
Viva Engage is improving the copy link experience on its web/browser surface. When users copy a link from the “Copy Link” button conversation card, pasting the link will render a short summary of the content. No content is moved, removed, or changed with this update.
Customize your Viva Connections experiences with fonts and themes
Viva Connections
Site owners and operators will now be able to create branded fonts and themes for their sites and experiences in the brand center by combining the branding assets that the organization provides or by creating their own.
Viva Connections – Manage your organization’s brand in the new brand center
Viva Connections
We’re introducing new branding and management capabilities that you can use to improve consistency across your Viva Connections desktop, mobile, and tablet experiences.
Create themes for SharePoint and Viva Connections in brand center
Viva Connections
We’re bringing a new theme creation experience into the brand center, allowing you to easily create and manage themes for your sites and related experiences.
Introducing custom fonts for SharePoint and Viva Connections Desktop

Fonts are more than just letters and symbols, and we’ve heard you. We’re bringing font customization to your SharePoint and Viva Connections experiences with the brand center. Express your personality, style, and brand by adding custom fonts to your sites and related experiences.

Create more than one Connections experience in the same tenant
Viva Connections
This new capability enables customers to create multiple distinct Connections experiences and corresponding home sites within the same tenant. Common scenarios include conglomerates or subsidiaries that require different Connections experiences for different users, each with its own dashboard, feed and resources.
Viva Connections Administration in Microsoft Admin Center
Viva Connections
Centralized IT administration of Viva Connections experiences along with home sites within the Microsoft Viva admin experience in Microsoft 365 admin center.

Code Snippets in Viva Engage
Viva Engage
Users will be able to add code snippets to their posts, discussions, replies, questions, polls, and praises on Viva Engage.
Additionally, if customers are licensed for Answers in Viva Engage, this feature will also be available when asking questions on Answers.

Modern All Company for non-native mode networks
Viva Engage
Most Microsoft Viva All Company communities in tenants and networks that are not yet in native mode networks will be automatically migrated to the modern All Company experience. This means that All Company will have all the new community experiences and features. This change will only affect a few Engage networks. Most networks already have the modern All Company experience.
New feature to limit moving of conversations across communities

Starting in January 2024, Microsoft Viva Engage customers will see a new setting to prevent users from moving conversations into a community.
Community or Engage admins may want to limit the movement of conversations between communities in the network. The new limit move conversation feature helps with that goal. When applied, users cannot move conversations into a community. All users can move conversations out of a community. Regardless of setting status, admins retain the ability to move a conversation anywhere in the network.
Connected actions – Viva Pulse integration into Viva Insights Leader deep dive reports
Viva Pulse
Leaders can send Viva Pulse surveys tailored to new out-of-the-box reports from the Viva Insights app in Microsoft Teams at anytime to add additional context to workplace metrics.

Replacing banner for setup of corporate communicators and leaders in Microsoft Viva Engage premium with a card

Admins and corporate communicators in Microsoft Viva Engage premium tenants will see an update to the banner displayed for the setup of corporate communicators and leaders. This update will be visual only.

Retirement of Organization administrator and Team administrator roles in Viva Goals

In an effort to simplify the access and permissions landscape in Viva Goals, we will be retiring the ‘Organization admin’ and ‘Team admin’ roles in Viva Goals.

Microsoft Copilot Dashboard for Viva Insights licensed customers
Viva Insights
Additional insights that combine Microsoft Copilot usage metrics with collaboration and sentiment data will be available to Viva Insights licensed organizations in the Copilot Dashboard. These additional insights provide more granular views of Copilot adoption, usage patterns, user sentiment, and return on investment across teams, functional roles, and more. Viva Insights analysts can create custom reports based on these metrics as well.
Viva Learning – Date and numeral standardization

All the dates that appear in Viva Learning will match the layout local to the user. This also applies to standardization of numerals.

Viva Pulse – Integration into Microsoft Copilot Dashboard from Viva Insights
Viva Pulse
Initiate a Copilot impact survey that helps leaders and IT admins understand the return on investment of rolling out Copilot and AI tools across their organizations. Viva Pulse provides a way for organizations to capture sentiment data that maps to work patterns data from Viva Insights to measure AI adoption.
