What’s new for Microsoft Teams – July 2025
July delivered several meaningful updates that will enhance your Teams experience and productivity as you return to work after summer, including new accent color personalization options that allow users to customize the visual appearance of their Teams interface, an enhanced meeting join bar that provides seamless access to meetings you’ve RSVP’d to with direct joining capabilities and multi-meeting support, and intelligent recap features powered by AI that help users catch up on missed meetings with generated notes and follow-up tasks.

When multiple camera views are enabled in Teams Rooms on Windows, the preview video on the front-of-room display and the camera settings dialog will show multiple camera views. This feature allows in-room users to be aware of all camera streams that are simultaneously streaming to remote users. This feature is available with the Teams Rooms Pro license.
We are announcing the ability to use Microsoft Teams Phone in Dynamics 365 Contact Center. This feature will reach general availability on July 30, 2025.
Users will be notified of multiple desk reservations and prompted to release previous ones when using bookable desks. A first run experience will explain these notifications. Rollout starts mid-July 2025 and completes by mid-August 2025. No admin action is required, but communication to users is recommended.

Efficiently narrow down your search results by using SQL-like commands in the search bar. Users can quickly filter messages, files, or conversations with precise queries such as from:username, with:username or in:channel.
Microsoft Teams is introducing a compact toast notification size for Windows users, available from July 2025. Users can enable it via Settings > Notifications > Choose Compact. This feature aims to reduce screen clutter and distractions. No admin action is required.

Organizers and co-organizers can now easily edit the details of Teams Town Hall instances. A direct link to the Teams Town Hall edit page is now accessible from Outlook calendar. This enhancement brings the same seamless editing and registration management experience already available in webinar, bringing a consistent experience across all event types.

Missed activity emails for Microsoft Teams will now come from the domain teams.mail.microsoft instead of teams.email.microsoft. This change will roll out in July 2025 with no impact on tenant configuration or admin settings. No action is required, but informing helpdesk or communications teams is recommended.

Deploy a frontline worker (FLW) pilot in Teams Admin Center
Microsoft Teams Premium will soon support SMS appointment notifications to Australian phone numbers starting late July 2025. This update requires no admin action and applies only to Teams Premium users. Organizations should notify users, update documentation, and review licensing.

Microsoft Teams will introduce a new feature allowing users to select accent colors for visual customization. This update will be available on Desktop, Mac, and Web platforms, rolling out from late July 2025 to late August 2025. No admin action is required.
Microsoft Copilot in Teams will soon provide intelligent meeting recaps that include content shared on screen, enhancing the summary’s richness. This feature, requiring a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, will be available for various platforms by mid-September 2025, with no admin controls needed. No compliance considerations identified.

A new Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solution for Microsoft Teams is now available for Amazon WorkSpaces (Personal and Pooled). This update introduces multimedia offloading and optimization, enabling a high-definition Teams experience—including audio, video, and screen sharing—by offloading media processing to the local device via the SlimCore engine. This entry applies to WorkSpaces only (AppStream is not supported).

Starting August 2025, Teams admins must complete a one-time KYC onboarding in the Teams Admin Center with business info and documents before provisioning new phone numbers. The process, taking hours to two days, applies globally and does not affect existing numbers or require specific licenses.

Starting late July 2025, Teams Phone admins can self-fix and resubmit certain rejected porting orders via the Teams Admin Center, improving efficiency without removing existing features. Seamlessly set up workflows started by emoji reactions in Teams. When a user reacts to a message with an emoji, the workflow will be kicked off to handle support tickets or start a helpdesk workflow.
The Teams Discover Feed backend is migrating from People Prediction Service to Substrate Search Service Recommendations starting June 18, 2025, with PPS deprecated by August 2025. No user impact is expected. Ensure client versions meet minimum requirements on Windows, iOS, and Android before August.

Event organizers can now download a distinct registration report (separate from an attendee list) from the Reports section of a Webinar, in order to have visibility and information about all registrants for a particular webinar instance.
Microsoft Teams will validate meeting join URLs starting September 30, 2025 (November 30 for GCC/DoD) to prevent altered or rewritten links from being used. Security products must avoid rewriting these URLs to prevent users from being blocked. No admin action is needed, but organizations should update security policies accordingly.
