What’s new for Microsoft Viva – November 2024
While it might seem that the Microsoft Viva suite has taken a backseat to Copilot for Microsoft 365, it continues to receive monthly updates aimed at improving user experience. This month, the spotlight is on communication applications, with Viva Engage, Viva Connections, and Viva Amplify receiving the majority of new features.
As I publish this post a week later than usual in December, we’ve already received the unfortunate news that Microsoft Viva will lose its second application, with Viva Goals being deprecated and removed from the suite next year. Microsoft Viva: Power Apps card for Viva Connections

Microsoft Viva: Viva Insights – Admin ability to assign Delegates
Viva Insights
Admins (Global administrators or Insights administrators) will now be able to assign or remove delegates for a Manager in Viva Insights via PowerShell. Previously, only Managers could assign delegates. Now, this ability provides delegate access in Insights to admins, allowing for ease and flexibility.
Viva Engage: Mute conversations in feeds and digests

Microsoft Viva Engage will soon introduce a ‘Mute conversations’ feature allowing network admins and corporate communicators to remove threads from the Home Feed and email digests. This feature, part of new moderation tools, will be available on all Engage platforms but can only be muted from the web and Teams and Outlook apps. Rollout starts mid-November 2024.
Viva Insights: Users can request delegate access

Microsoft Viva Insights will soon allow users to request delegate access from managers, applicable to various Teams platforms and the web app. The rollout starts in December 2024 for Targeted Release and January 2025 for General Availability, requiring no admin setup as it’s on by default.
Microsoft Copilot 365 in Viva Glint will support the summarization of employee survey comments

Starting November 2024, Microsoft Copilot 365 in Viva Glint will summarize employee survey comments, identify themes, and suggest actions. It requires a Viva Glint license and admin configuration. Public Preview begins June 2024, with General Availability in November 2024. Roadmap ID: 324079.

Microsoft Viva Insights: Admins assign delegate access

Microsoft Viva Insights will soon allow admins to assign or remove delegates for managers using PowerShell cmdlets. This feature, associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 464207, will roll out between mid-November 2024 and late January 2025. It will be off by default with no admin action required before rollout.

Microsoft Viva Engage: Unregistered users in an external network will not receive community emails

Unregistered users in Microsoft Viva Engage external networks will no longer receive community emails unless they accept an invitation and complete registration. This change, effective from December 2024 to January 2025, aims to enhance active engagement and reduce unnecessary emails. Organizations should inform users and update documentation accordingly.

Introducing exciting new features to help you better understand and improve adoption and impact of Copilot for Microsoft 365 through the Copilot Dashboard. Enhancements include the following: supporting multi-select capabilities for Scope filters to facilitate group comparisons and the ability to upload HR organizational data for Scope filter updates; and synchronized date ranges across the Readiness and Adoption pages for consistency and ease of analysis.

The Connections in the SharePoint App bar feature will provide a seamless entry point to Viva Connections from SharePoint, enhancing the synergy between the Intranet and Viva Connections.
Microsoft Viva Amplify and Microsoft SharePoint: New required footers will be automatically applied to email

New automatic footers will be added to emails sent from Microsoft Viva Amplify and SharePoint when sharing SharePoint News posts. These footers will include the customer logo, a Microsoft-generated statement, and a privacy statement link. Rollout begins early November 2024 and completes by mid-November. No admin action is required before the rollout. Organizations should update configurations and inform internal communicators.

Migration of Topics used in Viva Engage

In February 2024, the retirement of Viva Topics was announced. As part of the change, Viva Engage will return to a simplified topics model, called Engage topics, and the integration with Viva Topics will be retired. This message is for customers who have tenants with topics data that currently resides in Viva Topics or Topics lightweight management and who are not licensed to use Viva Topics after December 31, 2024.

Viva Insights: Data export for Viva Glint and Viva Insights data

We are pleased to announce the general availability of data export for Microsoft Viva Glint and Microsoft Viva Insights within the Microsoft Advanced Insights application. Analysts can now use the existing Glint and organizational insights Power BI template to run queries, and, with this new functionality, results can be downloaded as a CSV file. The existing feature allows users to view results as an embedded Power BI.

Coming soon: Updates to community analytics features for Microsoft Viva Engage. After this rollout, users will be able to keep up with their community’s activities in real time. We have added additional data ranges to support periods of 7 days, 28 days, 90 days, and 365 days. We have also added a new top conversations table that displays the conversations with the most engagement in the community and new Q&A engagement metrics, including an overview of most popular questions.

After this rollout, analysts can view and build their reports more efficiently using Copilot’s assistive features. Licenses required: Viva Insights or Microsoft Viva Suite.
