What’s new for Microsoft Viva – October 2024
October was particularly busy for Viva Insights, which received quite a few updates to enhance your productivity and well-being. On the communication front, Viva Engage, Viva Connections, and Viva Amplify also received interesting updates that will significantly improve your interaction with these applications.

Microsoft Viva Insights (Workplace Analytics): Service plan updates
Microsoft Insights
The Microsoft Office 365 subscription will be updated with a service plan for Microsoft Viva Insights Backend in late October 2024, providing insights into organizational trends. No admin action is required before the rollout.
Change to data classification for Copilot usage information in the Microsoft 365 admin center and Viva Insights

The message informs that Microsoft 365 Copilot usage data has been reclassified as required service data, eliminating the need for optional diagnostic data for active usage metrics. This change is effective immediately, and no action is needed if devices are updated to specified application versions.
Viva Amplify – Collaborative authoring

Microsoft Viva Insights: Business Leader role removal

In January 2025, Microsoft Viva Insights will discontinue the Business Leader role, maintaining Manager, Analyst, and Delegate roles. Affected users can retain access through delegation by a Manager. The “whole company” view will also be removed, but can be accessed via top leader delegation. Preparation involves assigning affected users as delegates.

Viva Insights – New Copilot adoption metrics and completing total actions taken

This adds seven new Copilot adoption metrics to the Copilot dashboard and Viva Insights Advanced insights. It also updates the “total actions taken” metric in the Copilot dashboard to include these new Copilot adoption metrics.

Viva Insights – Analyst query notification email

We are launching a new feature for a Viva Insights Analyst who will be able to receive a query notification email that provides them with the status of their recently completed query. The notification email will be triggered both for a successful and failed query executed in Advanced Insights (Analyst workbench). Both custom queries and Power BI reports are in the scope of this feature. The Viva Insights Analyst can access the Analyst query notification email from their inbox.
Microsoft Viva Glint and Viva Insights integration for sentiment and collaboration data

Microsoft Viva Glint and Viva Insights are integrating to provide sentiment and collaboration data. A new Power BI report will be available in the Viva advanced insights app and Viva Glint dashboard. Public Preview is available now, with full rollout expected by mid-November 2024. No admin action is required before the rollout.

There are no changes to the comment, reply, or reaction experiences with this new feature.

Microsoft Viva Pulse: New Pulse tenant admin dashboard for users with Pulse admin access

Enable leaders to ask questions about skills their team possess based on user-confirmed skills and Viva AI engine. Furthermore, they can dive deeper with dynamically curated reports. Along with this, they will have the ability to learn about AI adoption and impact on their team with Microsoft Copilot features.
Microsoft Viva Learning: Admins can edit Learning path content

Microsoft Viva Learning will soon allow admins to edit Learning path content, not just metadata. This feature, for Viva Learning premium users, starts rolling out in late December 2024 and completes by late January 2025. No admin action is required for this update.
Microsoft Viva: Microsoft 365 Copilot in Microsoft Viva Amplify

Microsoft 365 Copilot is now available in Viva Amplify to improve authoring with AI. It’s accessible without a Copilot license if you have a Viva Amplify license. Copilot offers rewriting, length adjustment, and tone setting features but is not available on SharePoint or mobile apps. No admin action is needed for the rollout.

The header now pulls in more relevant content and emphasizes key actions like “Join.” Additionally, we’ve reduced the icon size slightly to prevent overlap with background images, ensuring improved visibility and interaction.

Microsoft Viva Engage (Yammer): Enhanced audit log schema

Microsoft Viva Engage (Yammer) will update its audit log schema to include unique identifiers for the user performing an action (actor) and the user/object affected (target), along with a parameter to capture old and new values of modified fields. These changes will be available for E3 license users and will roll out by late December 2024. Admins should update documentation and scripts accordingly.

Microsoft Viva: Ability to request delegate access in Viva Insights

Viva Insights users will now be able request delegate access from a Manager in the Insights Teams or Web app. Previously, Managers could assign delegates, but potential delegates could not request access from a Manager. This request access update will allow for increased ease & flexibility of providing delegate access in Insights.
